The precollege outreach of AIAA SF and other local non-profit
societies depend heavily on the efforts of volunteers.
We have partnered over the long-term with certain organizations
with similar interests. In general, we have a common interest in STEM
(science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education.
- Girl Scout Golden Gate Bridging. Sign up now to join us at the
next outreach event, the 30th anniversary of Girl Scout Golden Gate Bridging
on May 7 in the Presidio. There will be over 5000 girls from 14 states
celebrating with fun activities. We will be making both paper airplanes and
paper rockets! Sign up with Ali email@example.com

- School visits.
- Inspire the next generation of scientists and
engineers! Visit a middle or high school
MESA chapter one time or on a monthly basis to share your experience and
do fun hands-on activities with the students.
Contact Samantha Infeld at firstname.lastname@example.org to get
connected to a chapter in San Jose or the East Bay.
- The Discover "E" ("E" stands for "Engineering") K-12 engineering
outreach program needs volunteer engineers to visit Bay Area classrooms and
discuss the engineering profession with students and teachers. About 150
Bay Area K-12 teachers have requested an engineer to visit their classroom
to discuss engineering. Now you need to
their requests. First time there, fill out the lower, longer form;
thereafter, use the shorter, upper form to access the database containing
the requests from teachers. Your username is your email address.
- NASA Ames: Ames Exploration Encounter (AEE)
- Coaches and Mentors Needed. AIAA is recognized as the Aerospace
Partner for two high school competitions. Both competitions pose real-world
problems to the students, and they need real-world expertise to help them
solve them. Most of your participation will be online and probably 5–10
hours per month. When the finalists in both competitions are downselected,
then they have another opportunity to refine their projects from January to
April, so coaching in that round might be more intensive.
- NASA Ames:
Ames Exploration Encounter (AEE), Exploration Center, Educator Resource
Center (ERC), etc.
- Conrad Foundation:
AIAA is the Aerospace Advisor for the Conrad Foundation
on the 2010 Pete Conrad Spirit of Innovation Awards.
The foundation's Innovation Summit will be held at NASA Ames.
Judges are needed for the summit.
The foundation also has other volunteer opportunities connected with
Silicon Valley Engineering Council (SVEC):
Discover "E" Program.
